Apprentice Spotlight: Keoki Kahe'e
Keoki is on his second year as an apprentice with Local 701. He enjoys operating cranes and excavators.
How have you benefitted from this apprenticeship?
"I knew that coming here would give me the opportunity to widen the variety of machines that I would be on and offer me more knowledge ... I've learned a lot more about so many other machines. The biggest factor of me being here was I knew the benefits of the union to also better my family and not just myself."
Why go union instead of non-union?
"The retirement is better than anywhere else that you can go. The union offers you a place to stay. And it puts you in a place that you like to be with the machines you'd like to run. And when you're in that specific place, they're going to keep you there. And you don't have to go around looking for work and not knowing what you're going to operate and not knowing where you're going to be."
